Whats with the doomsday hype? Opinions please!?
To be honest recent discussions and “warnings” regarding a doomsday in the near future have been annoying the lights out of me. Mayan calendar here, nuclear war there, WWIII, alien invasion, polar shift, bio weapon attack etc. The list is endless. I know that this has lead to some great movies and books but its scaring little kids and fragile people, oh, and the religious people too. There is some evidence regarding natural disasters and the rising of the violent age but the evidence they provide is rather improvised than researched. I remember Y2K aluminium garden furniture and think of how people emptied the supermarkets when I was a child and how my neighbors barricaded their windows and sat indoors wearing aluminium hats. This all frightened me when I was 10 back in 2000. And now people are doing the same… scientists back it up and religious groups hold masses for the rapture tickets… What is your stance on the hype and how do you keep your little ones from freaking out? (I have no children of my own but my little brother is 10 and is so frightened of all this stuff that he has started digging a hole in the garden for hiding in it…)The yogurt expiry date is really sweet:) The problem is that you cant really control what kids see on the TV. Even shows that look informative and harmless fun, feed doomsday propaganda into their brains. They see a man with a labcoat and believe him. Its really worrying sometimes and I wonder how these things ever caught up. Some people are so starved for spirituality and purpose that they hang on to these inventions of the money greedy media. I mean, for me its all great entertainment. All the alien invasion movies keep people entertained for a couple of hours but for kids its very frightening most of the time!
